First Solar Cell Factory Opened in Vilnius
The first solar cell production line was opened in Vilnius on 26 January. Modernios E-technologijos (MET) and Precizika Metrology (PM) invested EUR 2.9 million into the project.

Lithuania's GDP Growth Largest in EU in Q3
EUROSTAT announced that Lithuania’s GDP rose by 6.1 % in the 3rd quarter of 2009 versus the previous quarter. This makes it the steepest quarterly increase across the European Union. Lithuania was followed by Luxemburg (4.2 %) and Slovakia (1.6 %).

European Commission: Lithuania Has Taken Effective Action
On January 27 the European Commission assessed the action taken by Lithuania, Malta, Latvia and Hungary in response to recommendations proposed by the Commission and endorsed by the Council in July 2009 in respect to the correction of their respective budget deficits. The Commission concluded that effective action has been taken by the Government of Lithuania in response to the July recommendations.

Amsterdam-Vilnius-Amsterdam Route Starting from 12 Feb 2010
Starting from 12 February 2010, Estonian Air in cooperation with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will launch a new Amsterdam (Schiphol Airport) -Vilnius-Amsterdam route with six weekly frequencies on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Moog's European Research and Technology Development Centre Will Be Established in Lithuania
The U.S. company "Moog Medical Devices", which owns the Lithuanian company "Viltechmeda", will invest another EUR 4 M in Lithuania to establish its major European scientific research and technology development centre in the nearest future.

Volumes of Investments Consistently Growing
Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on provisional data, FDI in Lithuania as of 1 October 2009 amounted to EUR 9.9 billion, which is by 3.3 % more than as of 1 July 2009 (EUR 9.6 billion) and by 0.7 % more than as of 1 October 2008 (EUR 9.8 billion). Also, as of 1 October 2009, direct investment of Lithuanian enterprises abroad amounted to EUR 1.7 billion, which is by 3.8 % more than as of 1 July 2009 (EUR 1.6 billion) and by 15.3 % more than as of 1 October 2008 (EUR 1.4 billion).

Bioethanol Plant Opened in Northern Lithuania
A new bioethanol plant has started operations in Northern Lithuania. This is the first manufacturing facility in the EU, which will produce several types of bioproducts in one technological chain.

International Living 2010 Index: Perfect Quality of Life
According to the International Living 2010 Quality of Life Index, quality of life in Lithuania is one of the highest among the new EU-12 members as well as ranks higher than Sweden, Great Britain and Greece.
