Lithuanian App Developers Take Top Prize at Global Mobile Premier Awards 2012

March 05, 2012, Invest Lithuania
Lithuanian games and visual apps developer Tag of Joy has won the AppCircus Best App Award at the Mobile Premier Awards 2012 held in Barcelona last week. The awards, which are in their sixth year, are sponsored by Intel, Mozzila, BlackBerry and other leading technology organisations.

Tag of Joy’s augmented reality action game, Bear Care, was shortlisted from 20 apps in AppCircus World Tour, a showcase for the best apps developed from around the world in the last year. Tag of Joy, run by young brothers Sarunas and Zilvinas Ledas, develops games for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7, OS X, Windows and other platforms.

The brothers are the latest Lithuanian developers to have received global recognition for their work:

• GetJar, the world’s first multi-platform mobile application download provider, was launched in 2005 and is now the second largest mobile application store globally with more than 2 billion downloads to date – more than Nokia, Microsoft, Samsung and LG. GetJar has won prestigious Mobile Excellence Award for Best Mobile Service and last year was recognised by the World Economic Forum as one of four of the most innovative Technology Pioneer companies – a report on the technology companies most likely to make a significant impact on business and society.

• Lithuanian software developer Pixelmator’s image editing application was named App of the Year by Apple last year. The company also won the prestigious Apple Design Award. Established by two Lithuanians in 2007, the company has steadily gained a reputation as a solid alternative to Photoshop and today ranks as the fourth best-selling app on the Mac App Store, trailing only Apple’s Aperture, iPhoto, and Pages.
